RESULTS
When I completed the Psychotherapy Theoretical Evaluation Self-Test, the areas that I scored high were cognitive with 31 points, pragmatics with 29 points, and psychodynamic with 28 points. I was not shocked by these results because they are in accord with my choice of topics focusing on studying cognitive aspects, application of different therapies, and participating in the investigation of the unconscious material. All these alignments reflect the analytical approach down to the preference for practicality in decision-making.
The three important theories in the counseling that impressed me the most are Cognitive, Pragmatic, and Psychodynamic. These theories are what I find most appealing based on my ethnocentricity and belief in submitting rationality and problem-solving skills in various tasks as well as interest in the apparent forces that lie deep within that control an individual’s behavior. Indeed, I embrace the idea of the constant evolution of the self and the improvement of one’s perspective in life, which correlates with these therapeutic approaches.
Rather, the use of a single feature throughout the whole course proved particularly beneficial as it let me address various concerns in detail and test out various theories consistently. It introduced the knowledge of the case and the differences between key theoretical perspectives distinctively. On the same note, discussing multiple cases might have provided a wider agenda on the usage of various theories.

1-crsytal- Post TEST results:
Explain in 2-3 sentences the extent to which I was surprised or not surprised by the TEST results, and explain the reasons why I was surprised or not surprised:
I was a little surprised with my TEST results as I expected my scores for biological, family, and humanistic to be a little higher based on my work experience and interactions with families and knowing these areas effect families and the difficulties they are facing. However, it also did not surprise me that my two highest scores were cognitive and pragmatic. I do believe that individuals’ thoughts can affect their emotions, behaviors, and abilities and that ideas (or goals or solutions) that clients come up with should be practical to what they can do or the real-world situation they are facing.
After looking back at the array of theories and models that were covered in this course, identify the top three theories or models that most appealed to me:
The top three theories that appealed most to me were reality therapy, attachment theory, and resiliency theory. I selected these three theories/models because I use them in the work that I currently do and can see how I use them with families even before I really understood I was using these theories/models. Now that I know more about them, I can use them more effectively with the families I work with.
Explain in 3-4 sentences how my personal values, worldviews, life experiences, and/or my personality influenced my selection of the top three theories or models:
Honestly, until I read this prompt, I did not think my personal values, worldview, life experiences, or personality had influenced my selection of my three top theories. However, after reflection, I can see that my personal values, worldviews, life experiences, and personality greatly affected why I selected them and why I use them with the families I work with. I have changed my own thought patterns by changing my behaviors, and my own experiences with attachment and resiliency have led me to believe that with the right connections and support, anyone can deal with trauma and build their own resiliency.
In this course, we selected one case study to use throughout the entire course. Describe this experience – for example, the degree to which it was helpful to focus on one case, what I learned, what could perhaps be done differently:
I liked being able to select one case study to use throughout the entire course. I did not have to remember stories of clients I previously worked with or create my own scenarios. It also helped me to learn how to apply multiple different theories to one case, which deepened my understanding of the theories and realization that sometimes multiple theories can apply (or may need to be utilized) to assess a client and provide appropriate interventions.
2-ash w-After taking the TEST, post your results.
Explain in 2–3 sentences the extent to which you were surprised or not surprised by the TEST results, and explain the reasons why you were surprised or not surprised.
The results showed which parts of the theories I agree with most and highlighted areas where I might need to refine my understanding or application. I was unsure how I would score, but I was not too surprised by my results. My top theory score was psychodynamic theory, followed by cognitive. I am familiar with and enjoy applying both theories to case studies.
After looking back at the theories and models covered in this course, identify the top three theories or models that most appealed to you.
After reviewing the theories we learned throughout the class, I noticed that a few appealed to me the most. My top three theories are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Role Theory.
Explain in 3–4 sentences how your personal values, worldviews, life experiences, and/or your personality influenced your selection of the top three theories or models.
My values and worldview emphasize the importance of understanding and addressing individual thought processes and relational dynamics. I have always been interested in an individual's system and how those dynamics can impact it. I enjoy CBT because it has the power to change thought patterns and improve mental health. Attachment Theory shows the importance of early relationships in shaping who we become. Understanding the impact of early relationships is essential because these connections often shape how we view ourselves and relate to others throughout life (Turner, 2017).
In this course, you were asked to select one case study to use throughout the entire course. Describe this experience—for example, the degree to which it was helpful to focus on one case, what you learned, and what could perhaps be done differently.
Using the same case study throughout the course was helpful. It allowed me to become familiar with the case details, making it easier to apply and understand the various theories and concepts we studied. This made it easier to understand each theory's practical use. Next time, it might be helpful to look at more cases to see how different approaches work in other situations.
